New Kids on the Block Party

It’s a big night in Midtown. Our beloved H&8th is back, and there’s another event on the docket. From 6-9 p.m., Midtown retail newcomer STASH, along with Dry/Shop and Waffle Champion, will host an Open House Block Party as a way to welcome people into their shop and showcase their new digs. If you need to be lured further, they’ll be serving up food and libations, and you might score some free goods.

STASH, an ethically produced goods retailer hailing from Norman, intended to make their first appearance in Midtown solely during the second week of the Holiday Pop-Up Shops. Shortly after committing to their space in the igloo village of Pop-Ups, they found they’d also be operating a temporary brick-and-mortar a small jaunt down the road at 1108 Classen Dr. in Plaza Court.

“Our landlord agreed to let us try the space from the middle of October to the end of December. So, within a month, we would have to be in three locations at once,” said STASH co-owner Della Patterson, who opened the original Norman location in 2010 with partner and friend Rebecca Bean.

“Our intention was purely a ‘Holiday Market’ pop-up shop. We saw it as a good a way to reach out to folks in OKC to tell them about our shop in Norman. The response was great and we just haven’t wanted to leave!”inside-stash

As of January, STASH made their location permanent. Looking for a way to dive right into their new locale, Patterson and Bean decided on an open-house style block party.

“We like a good party as much as the next person. We strive to create events like ones that we would enjoy. We feel it’s part of being a good neighbor to give back to the community. We aren’t just here to sell you things. We want a relationship with locals. That’s why we’re here,” said Patterson.

If being new is about making impressions, they’re certainly aiming to do so, and they have the rallying support of old and new Midtown businesses. Fellow hosts Dry/Shop and Waffle Champion joined the cause, and helped develop the lineup for the evening.

The festivities kick off at 6 p.m., with Plaza Court gems McNellie’s, Midtown Optical and Desmond Mason Art Gallery, as well as and the recently opened Ambassador Hotel.

Here’s the rundown:

STASH– complimentary bites and beverages, along with door prizes donated by McNellie’s.

Dry/Shop– complimentary food and wine, drawings, giveaways and special discounts.

Waffle Champion– signature chicken n’ waffle sandwiches, 2-for-1 PBRs and a gift package drawing ($50 gift certificate and WC gear).

McNellie’s– special keg tapping of Mustang Brewing’s Rocket Fuel; $3 a brew.

Midtown Optical– complimentary snacks from The Wedge, Ray-Ban sunglasses drawing and 30% off sunglasses.

Desmond Mason Art Gallery– preview of Desmond Mason’s latest collection.

Ambassador Hotel– drawing for a free one-night stay and special tours of the restaurant and rooftop O Bar.

Midtown, you’re a beaut, and STASH thinks so, too.

“We love being a part of Midtown. Everything we want for the area around our Norman shop is happening here! Quickly! It’s truly invigorating and exciting to be a small part of the live-work-play vision in this part of OKC. We love that the neighborhood around us is thriving, and that so many good things are moving in all around us” said Patterson.

Before you’re out filling the food truck void that winter bestowed, head down the road to the happenings ’round the Midtown Plaza Court/1212 building area. We’ll be prowling the neighborhood, taking in all the food and beer gluttony we can handle.
